Tom Parsons
Sales Director
What I do at Good Energy
I lead the teams that are responsible for:
- Selling energy and energy services to domestic, SME and larger business customers across the UK
- Sourcing renewable power from generators across the UK and ensuring they are paid and effectively account managed.
- Developing and launching new business products in the marketplace.
- Launching new domestic products in the marketplace.
Who am I?
I specialise in helping domestic and business consumers with their energy and decarbonisation requirements, helping to balance their environmental and financial needs. I’ve worked with some of the UKs largest consumers including Thames Water and BT, delivering solutions for complex energy procurement, renewable generation installation and the Feed in Tariff. I’ve led strategy and sales teams for the past 15 years at EDF, Drax and now here at Good Energy. I also recently gained my MBA from Exeter University in sustainable business management.
I passionately believe that renewable power is not only the right environmental solution, it is also the right economic solution. I’ve been responsible for several product launches that have helped UK organisations decarbonise while continuing to grow, and alongside other colleagues I’m currently leading the roll out of our market leading FIT Smart Export product and Power for Good for smaller customers in the UK with self-generation.
Advice for prospective candidates
There are two things I look for in candidates:
- Do they have the knowledge / experience I need in the role and if not do I think they can learn it quickly?
- Do they align to the culture I want within my teams – one of collaboration, taking responsibility and innovating for our customers?
My advice to candidates would be to focus on the two points above, and not worry too much about not meeting all the technical capabilities – being open and willing to learn is the most important element a lot of the time.
